Filter Elements in 3D

Ken

When you work with large 3D models, navigation can become slow due to the number of Polygons.  Common ways to improve this situation usually involve turning Layers off or using a Marquee to limit the window content.  However, another option is available!

Go to View> Elements in 3D View> Filter and Cut Elements in 3D… and use the buttons highlighted below to switch on or off entire element types:

In this example, the Doors and Windows are hidden (something that cannot be controlled with Layers!) but the model is still easy to navigate as the openings remain visible.

The filters are saved with Views so you can create new Views specifically for Navigation while retaining unfiltered Views for documentation purposes.

“Having used Revit and ARCHICAD extensively, I can without hesitation say that ARCHICAD is BIM for architects. The ease of workflow from pre-design to schematic design to construction documents makes it ideal. There are so many time saving features. The fact that I can collaborate globally with minimal setup and that I can create anything my imagination comes up with is a great benefit to my architectural practice.”

"I attended a multi day training session with Chris and Link of BIM6x. Their knowledge of ARCHICAD, organization and accessibility during the course were exceptional. I left the class feeling more confident using ARCHICAD, with many useful techniques to save time and produce better drawings and models. It was extremely helpful to work with instructors that know the software inside and out and who were able to share their knowledge in a clear and enjoyable way."
